Meet Stephanie |
My name is Stephanie Knight and I have had the utmost privilege of seeing hundreds of clients over the past 22 years. I am truly passionate about the work I do, which I hope you will discover when you meet me. You will never be a "number", just another client in my day, or a set of symptoms. I will be "in it" with you as long as you need my help and I will meet you where you are.
I am grateful for my years of experience in various settings. During college, I volunteered for four years at domestic violence shelters where I supported women seeking safety/starting a new life, met women in hospitals to support them after a sexual assault, and worked the 24-hour women's crisis line- sometimes during the night, which likely wasn't my roommate's favorite part of living with me. From there, I worked at an alternative high school and implemented behavioral modification for teens who were expelled from the Portland public schools. This provided me the skills to manage clients who were resistant to help, as well as knowledge regarding the complicated reasons why they struggle with trust in themselves and others. I loved working in a school because I got to be a part of the teens' day-to-day lives. My next setting was in a community mental health center, where I was a skills trainer for children and teens with mental health struggles. I worked there throughout graduate school at Lewis and Clark College, and did my practicum in another alternative high school where I was the school counselor. Since graduating with my master's degree in counseling psychology, I have worked as an elementary school counselor, a drug and alcohol counselor where part of my job was to work with the women in the Drug Court program, and at another community mental health center where I saw clients from 5 to 75. I have been practicing privately in Lake Oswego since 2008. When I am not working, I am spending time with friends and family, including my four daughters. I also enjoy running, cooking, climbing, traveling, or just participating in any big or little adventure. |
